UTS TECHNOLOGIES

Our Story

UTS Technologies roots run deep in Ireland’s business landscape. Since 1948, our adherence to a quality first mindset has enabled the company to navigate the ebbs and flows of the Irish economic climate.

  • Penneys Clock Limerick
    1948

    Henry Spring & Co. Founded

Henry Spring founded a watch and clock company in Dublin that served retail and industrial customers such as hospitals, Dublin Airport and third level institutions. The famous Penneys clock in Limerick is still going strong!

  • Duncan parking meter
    1968

    First parking meters in Dublin

Working with Dublin Council, we launched the first parking meters in Dublin. These first Duncan meters were like clocks (complete with crank handle), so were a natural addition to Henry Spring's portfolio of work.

  • Harland & Wolf cranes as icon of Belfast
    1985

    Expansion to Belfast

Having earned the trust of the Dublin City Council over many years and adding a Pay & Display contract in Belfast, Henry Spring was sold to an Irish consortium

  • 1988

    Beyond machines

Our long-established relationship with Dublin City Council extended into Parking Solutions as our service evolved into management and clamping as well as provision and maintenance of machines

    1992

Out of the Ashes comes Killowen

When that Irish consortium folded, Henry and his son Jonathan Spring formed Killowen Ltd to service legacy customers. Henry looked after the watch and clock business, while Jonathan developed the parking side

  • 2000

    Renamed to UTS following MBO

An MBO that involved Parkeon, a sub-division of the giant Schlumberger energy corporation, necessitated using a different brand name. And so, UTS came into being in Ireland as Pay & Display machines replaced scratch cards in Dublin.

  • 2010s

    Continuous Improvement

The parking market becomes a more efficient, connected business as solar power, card & cash payments, and improved service become the norm.

  • 2020

    Smart Solutions

Parking guidance, EV charging and parking bay monitoring are added to the UTS parking portfolio as we also extend our deployments into smart city applications such as flood, highway, and air quality management.
