‘I think parking meters are a very bad idea, really, because at the moment, you can’t really park anywhere anyhow; and if you have parking meters it’s going to make the problem worse’.
It’s safe to say that when Dublin Council introduced parking meters South of the Liffey in 1968, they weren’t universally welcomed.
As you can see in these clips from the RTE Archives, their arrival received a mixed reaction from the public.
